A/N: this is based on an actual game of Call of Cthulhu I played with my friends. Some of the stuff actually happened, like the Salt comment(that was me) and the ghoul thing, and some other stuff.

“A bloody had slams against the window. Roll for sanity loss.” The teen said.

Sam groaned. “Oh come on, seriously? I lost three sanity points from a stupid bloody hand?!”

“Your character is a scaredy cat Sam.” A girl giggled from across the table.

“Natalie, stay in character.” Keenan, the game runner, said.

“Alright, I have my violin case, if you know what I mean.” Another boy said.

“Yes Dennis, we know what you mean.” Sam rolled his eyes.

“Because I have my tommy gun in the-”

“Okay, what do you guys do now?”

“I go over and check the window.” Sam sighed.

“There is no sign of anything.”

“Guys, I have a house in Gloucester, maybe we should stay there for the night.” Dennis said in character.

“Yeah Okay.” Natalie said. “I think that's a good idea.”

“We should be fine here, all we have to do is lay down some salt and-”

“Sam!” Keenan growled. “What did I tell you? Your character DOESN'T KNOW THAT, he doesn’t have any occult points, and you didn’t do an Idea check!”

Sam sighed. “Fine, then i do an Idea check.”

“Roll. Did you make it?”

“Your idea is to go to Dennis’ house.”

“Why can’t we just-”

Sam sighed and slouched in his seat.

“Alright, we all go to my house and go to sleep.” Dennis said.

“You have a peaceful night. What do you do in the morning?”

“We should go check out that old abandoned church!” Natalie said.

“Yeah we get in my car and go to the old church.” Dennis said.

“Alright, the church is all broken down and rubbly from the fire. There is only some walls remaining and no roof. Do a spot hidden check.”

“I make mine.” Sam sighed.

“Alright, you see that there is a staircase going down into the basement.”

“So I go down the stairs.”

“There is water down there, some books are floating and its really grotesque smelling.”

“I check out some of the books.”

“You find one with a lot of latin written on it.”

“Alright what does the latin say?

“Does your character know Latin?”

Sam looked down at his character sheet. “Uhm, no but...”

“No buts. If you don’t know latin then you don’t know latin.”

“But I DO know latin!” Sam groaned.

“You do, but your character doesn’t!”

Sam rolled his eyes and shut his mouth. For the first time in a long time he was actually slightly glad he didn’t have to stick around this town.

“Keenan go easy on him.” Natalie said. “Its his first time playing after all.” She winked.

Sam coughed. “Right well, lets just...I uhm, I take the book and go back upstairs.”

“The stairs collapse.”

“There is something in the water with you.”

“What is it?” Sam sighed.

“It has dog face with pointed ears, bloodshot eyes, flat nose, and drooling lips. It has scaly claws a mould-caked body and half-hooved feet.” Keenan described.

“Oh a ghoul!” Dennis said.

“Dennis! you don’t know that!” Keenan groaned.

“Thats not what a ghoul is...” Sam mumbled to himself.

“Anyway, you saw it Sam, so you need to do a sanity check.”

“Okay I come out clean.”

“Loose one anyway.” Keenan said.

Sam rolled his eyes and changed his sanity points on his character sheet.
“It launches at you, what do you do?”

“Uh, I dont know. Beat it?”

“It bites you, roll for damage.”

“Crap... I’m dead.” Sam sighed.

“You should have taken a gun with you Sam.” Dennis said.

“You know what? I don’t like this game. I’m dead, so I’m leaving.” Sam picked up his stuff and left.
