Summery: AU. Jared is the emo kid everyone makes fun of. Jensen is the new kid from California that shakes things up.
A/N: I wrote this for School, then changed the names so if I missed any name changes, let me know.

Jared woke up at 6:40 every morning. He dressed in black pants, a band t-shirt, and his black high top Converse. Sometimes he would wear fingerless gloves, but most days he just wore his favorite black hoodie because it was well worn and had thumb holes. After getting dressed, he went into the bathroom he shared with his sister. He grumbled as he kicked away a pair of her underpants, muttering “gross” under his breath. Just for that, Jared decided he was going to use her good eyeliner. He plugged in the hair straightener, and lined his eyes with dark kohl, smirking as he though about how much easier this brand went on than the type he buys, which is cheaper. He straightened his hair, making sure that the bit of red in his bangs was clearly in front of the black color of the rest of his hair. He brushed his teeth and smiled in the mirror.

Two weeks into his freshman year of high school, Jared walked through the doors of Belmont High School, home of the Belmont Beavers, rivals of the Riverton Wombats. “Thwack those Wombats!” Of course, he wasn’t the type who followed sports. Two weeks into the school year, it was apparent what he was going to be. The loser, the outcast. He was used to it though, middle school was a horror story, and he couldn’t imagine high school would be much better. Everyone had their cliques, they rarely changed.

“Fag!” someone said, and shoved Jared over. His book went flying, papers everywhere, and everyone was laughing at the emo gay kid on the floor scrambling to get to class. This was Jared’s life, and he wasn’t expecting it to get any better.

Jared walked into his first period English class and sat in his seat. A couple of guys chuckled to themselves, whispering when he walked by. Jared just ignored them and went to his seat. He took out his binder and didn’t notice someone sit down next to him.

“Hey, I’m Jensen.” Jared looked up through his hair and looked confused. The new kid was talking to him. He had heard about him, he just moved here from California. Star Lacrosse player, and shoe in for “Belmont’s most popular”. He was tan with short dirty blonde hair, freckles littering his face, and the greenest eyes Jared had ever seen. “Uhm, hi?” Jensen said again. Jared shook himself out of his dais. “Uh, I’m Jared… Look if you want to make fun of me or whatever, just do it so I can focus on class.” Jared glared at him. Jensen looked confused. “Why would I-“

“Yo Jensen! What are you doing near Fagalecki? There is an open seat next to me; you don’t have to sit with the freak.” One of the other Jocks that was laughing at him earlier said. Jensen just looked at Jared with an apologetic look on his face and left. Just as well, Jared would rather not sit next to a mindless jock that would most likely throw things at him or copy off his paper anyway.

The bell rang for lunch and Jared was so relieved. Lunch was the one time he wasn’t being harassed throughout the day. Today had been hell. He had been pushed in the halls, called multiple names he would not like to repeat, and he was currently picking spit balls out of his hair. Once he was sure he got them all out, he sat down at what had become his regular table for lunch. “How many times?” Sandy, his best friend since kindergarten said. “How many times what? How many times have I been tripped today? Or maybe how many times someone has thrown something at me? Or maybe you’re asking how many times I’ve been called a “fairy queen” or any other gay slurs. To answer all of them, to many times to count. I can’t wait for high school to be over.” Jared huffed and pulled out his sandwich, which was now crushed because Gabe, the football captain, had stepped on his backpack “accidentally” in History class.

Jared sighed and pushed his lunch bag away from him. He wasn’t hungry anymore.

“Yeah, you should have seen it. I pushed him over and his books went everywhere! It was so hilarious! What a gay loser!” He heard laughing from the other table. He sighed, knowing they were talking about him. “Yeah, and today in English, I called him Fagalecki, how great is that?! I can’t believe we haven’t thought about that before!” A chorus of male laughter sounded in his ear.

Jared turned bright red. Sandy frowned at him, feeling sorry for him. He couldn’t take it anymore, he was just about to get up and leave when…

“HEY!” the whole cafeteria went quiet. Jared looked, and it was Jensen, standing up on one of the tables. Great, he though, some sports announcement.

“So, Many of you may know me, but if not, my name is Jensen, I just moved here from California, and I’m the new Lacrosse Captain.” Hoots and hollers sounded throughout the cafeteria.

“I have been at this school for two weeks now, and I’m starting to see how things work. We have a type of, hierarchy. Jocks and Cheerleaders at the top, then the smart kids, then the art kids, then the nerds, and finally, the ones we call the ‘emo kids.” More hoots and hollers. Jared frowned. This was ridiculous.

“One person in particular has caught my eye. Seems to be the punching bag of the whole school.” Jensen smiled. Jared couldn’t believe this, not only did he have to deal with this all day, but not at lunch in front of everyone too?

“Jared Padalecki is a freshman who I have seen pushed around, called names, and even had things thrown at him.” Jensen sounded disgusted. Jared frowned, confused.

“Why? Because he dresses a little different. Because he likes boys instead of girls. I was really hoping this new school would be somewhere I would be comfortable, and that I would like. I guess not. I can’t keep seeing this going on and continue to ignore it. Everyone is different. I don’t see Sandy McCoy get made fun of. She dresses the same way Jared does. Why is that? Is it because she is a girl? Or is it because she is straight?” The whole cafeteria went silent. Jared still sat there with his mouth gaping.

“So, looks like the only reason you pick on Jared is because he is gay. If that’s how this school works then fine. I can take a beating. I have in the past. So if y’all are gunna use gay kids as punching bags, I got another one for you right here. That’s right, I’m gay. The one who you thought was cool; the new Lacrosse captain is gay. No that doesn’t mean I’m checking you out in the locker room. However, if it makes you feel uncomfortable, I’ll quite and start hanging out with people who don’t give a crap that I’m homosexual. How’s that for y’all?”

The cafeteria was completely silent. Then another kid got on a table, Jared thinks he was a junior.

“I-I want to say, That Jensen is right. No one should pick on people because of who they like. I have two moms.” The kid promptly sat down.

Jensen clapped. “Anyone else wanna say anything?”

Kids started standing up all over the cafeteria, announcing things about themselves. People who had anxiety issues, people who had depression, people who just wanted to say that they thought how this school was treating people sucked, but didn’t have the guts to say anything before. By the end, every single student was clapping after someone’s confession.

Finally, Chad, the person who was the ring leader of the jocks stood up.

“Uh hi, I’m Chad…and I just wanted to say that uhm…I’m really sorry for harassing people…truth is… My Dad left my mom when I was about 7 for another dude. I guess I kind of took my anger out on my father on other people… Truth is I actually have always thought Jared was a cool guy… and uhm… I kind of dig your best friend Sandy…” Sandy gasped and blushed. “So…I’m sorry for doin’ all that mean stuff to you.” Chad sat down and everyone clapped.

Finally Jared stood up.

“No one, in the past two years that I have come out of the closet, has given me a chance besides Sandy. No one wanted to talk to me; no one wanted to be near me. Now one kid from California says he is gay too, and your all confessing and saying your sorry? Jensen, I appreciate what your doing, but this won’t erase the past two years. It won’t stop the fact that I was cut from the baseball team cause no one wanted to play with a fag. If you all really wanna change because of one kid? One kid who you all adored because he was good at sports and he is pretty? While I’m glad I won’t be bullied anymore, I don’t think I can forgive most of you for what you have done to me. I’m not saying I’m not willing to, but don’t expect me to be all chipper and happy tomorrow, because every day I still expect to be picking spit balls out of my hair by lunch time. So thank you for supporting Jensen when he came out. Congratulations Jensen, you got a much better reaction than I did.” After that, Jared stormed out of the cafeteria and to the only place he felt safe in the school. His counselor’s office.

Jared sat down and finally let out the tears. Not only was that humiliating, but now everyone is going to hate him more because he couldn’t accept everyone’s apology. There was a knock on the door and Jared lifted his head, expecting it to be Sandy. However, when he looked through the small window, he did see long black hair with pink streaks like he expected. Instead, it was short sandy blond hair and a pair of piercing green eyes.

Jared let Jensen in. “Look Jared, I’m sorry if that made everything worse. I just couldn’t stand seeing you get bullied. I know what its like, and it really sucks.”

Jared looked down. “Thanks for it, but you came about two years to late.”

Jensen lifted Jared’s chin so he was looking at him. “Jared? I think you’re really awesome. Over the past week I’ve kind of… well developed a crush on you. I was wondering…Do you want to maybe go to junior prom with me?”

Jared’s eyes widened. “B-but you’re a freshman…”
Jensen laughed and shook his head. “No, I’m a junior. I’m just taking freshman English because my old school seriously sucked.”

Jared was speechless. “I-uh, uhm yeah, yeah okay I will…” Jensen's face broke out into one of the brightest smiles Jared had ever seen. Jensen leaned down and kissed him lightly. The bell rang and Jensen smiled. “See you later Jay.”

Jared couldn’t help but smile.

Maybe high school won’t be so bad after all.
